Dark Justice
Nicole Bentley & Deborah Britt-Hay

Want to meet a killer with whom you'll empathize? An oxymoron, you say? Not in this case!

The readers of Dark Justice will become increasingly sympathetic to Meagan who, a victim of incest at the hands of her father and brainwashed by her mother into "keeping the secret," perpetuates the same destructive cycle in her marriage and finds relief from despair and possible death only by killing her husband, and, ultimately, other abusers.

Chief of Detective Alix Mendez, a zany, fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants Hispanic cop with a quirky personality, is convinced of Meagan's guilt and determined to prove it. The novel explores feminist and ethnic issues faced by Alix, and Meagan's life of abuse and exploitation at the hands of men, culminating in her obsessive desire for revenge, both for herself and the women she counsels. Two intelligent, educated women square off, one with everything to gain, the other with nothing to lose. The double-twist ending serves up the ultimate in dark justice in an unusual and definitely controversial climax that will have some clapping and others wondering.

The consultant for this novel was a woman, herself a victim for years, who now works counseling battered women and children. The authors, a mother-daughter team, have crafted a powerful, character-driven mainstream fiction novel and are the authors of two "whodunits," Dark Mission and Dark Revenge, featuring the same colorful series detective. They are currently at work on two other titles in their "dark" series, Dark Obsession and Dark Deeds.
